Exosome Therapy

Consultations offered at our seven convenient locations in Brea, Costa Mesa, Glendora, Lancaster, Rancho Cucamonga, Whittier and West Hollywood

Exosome therapy is a form of topical skin rejuvenation that utilizes exosomes, bioactive molecules produced by the body. Exosomes are classified as vesicles or microscopic containers that serve to carry nutrients, nucleic acids, and other components for the purpose of cellular growth and proliferation. Within the body, exosomes are messengers for regenerative processes, facilitating tissue repair from disease or injury. With this form of therapy, these multifaceted molecules are available within a topical skin serum

Usually, skincare specialists pair this cream with microneedling procedures to allow the exosomes to absorb deeply into the skin, enhancing collagen and elastin production. Other components of exosomes can prevent and treat cosmetic concerns and promote overall skin health.

Revitalizing your skin has never been easier with the innovative applications of exosomes, available at Skin Perfect Medical Aesthetics with several locations throughout Southern California. Our practices have been leading the way and setting the standard for care for 20 years. Cellular Regeneration with Exosomes

Regenerative treatments are part of a large field of science that researches how the body’s physiological components can be utilized in various therapies- exosome therapy is just one example. Because of this, topical exosomes are biocompatible with your skin, giving you a way to naturally enhance your skin texture and quality and combat the effects of aging. Exosomes are microscopic transporters and belong to a category of molecules called extracellular vesicles (EVs). They not only operate as nanocarriers, but they allow cells to communicate with each other. In recent practices, since they are so versatile, clinicians have even applied exosomes to the joints and other internally damaged tissues. Within the skin, they can accomplish a variety of functions:

  • Wound healing. Exosomes help regenerate tissues by inhibiting or activating physiological pathways required for recovery.
  • Extracellular remodeling. These particles provide reinforcement for the skin’s supportive scaffold in between skin cells, the extracellular matrix. This area is made up of proteins and molecules, but no cells.
  • Support for the immune system. They aid in T-cell production, a vital type of white blood cell that fights infection and cancer cells.
  • Supports angiogenesis. This process is the creation of new blood vessels, important structures for transporting nutrients throughout the skin.
  • Maintenance of cellular growth and reproduction. Exosomes carry growth factors and other molecules that cells can utilize. (1)

Benefits of Exosome Therapy

Exosomes give patients an alternative to other topical serums while still providing a wide variety of benefits:

  • They can complement and accentuate the effects of microneedling sessions, laser skin resurfacing procedures, and chemical peels.
  • No injections or anesthesia are required.
  • They are found naturally in the blood, synovial fluid in between the joints and saliva. (2)
  • Recently, researchers have determined that exosomes may be a potential alternative to stem cell therapy, another type of regenerative medicine. Stem cells are typically applied to help heal damaged cartilage, tendons, and other connective tissues. (3)
  • They assist in the creation of collagen, elastin, and other connective fibers in the skin that can erase fine lines and scars
  • By helping stimulate cellular turnover and promoting the health of the epidermis, patients can treat age spots and other skin discolorations.

What Do Exosomes Transport?

Exosomes carry a number of valuable components within them, all essential for preventing aging and assisting with overall skin health. Some of these include:

  • Growth factors– a type of molecule that signals tissue repair processes and cellular growth. Some examples of essential growth factors of the skin are epidermal growth factor, cytokines, fibroblast growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor, and platelet-derived growth factor.
  • Peptides– organic molecules made up of amino acids, the foundational blocks of connective tissues like collagen and elastin fibers.
  • RNA– responsible for delivering genetic information to protein-producing structures called ribosomes within cells.
  • Lipids– fat components that offer the skin physiological protection from bacteria and harmful environmental factors. These molecules also help the skin retain lubrication and produce a radiant, glowy tone.
  • Nucleic acids– responsible for keeping genetic information and assisting in the synthesis of protein production in the body. These molecules act as “blueprints” for more complex structures like RNA and DNA. (4)

How Do Exosomes Work Within the Skin?

From topical application to the skin, exosomes immediately interact with the outer layer of skin cells, the keratinocytes. By aiding keratinocytes, the skin can exhibit greater resiliency against harmful UV rays from the sun. Deeper than the epidermis, in the dermis, exosomes provoke more activity in the fibroblast cells, the cells that create collagen and elastin. Finally, they can also serve to control inflammation within the skin, promoting a clearer, more youthful complexion

Personal Consultation

During your consultation at Skin Perfect, your skincare specialist will evaluate your main concerns, ask you about which treatments you have tried so far, and the expectations you have for exosome therapy. They may speak with you about your interest in other skin rejuvenation treatments that will maximize your results to the fullest. Though exosome therapy does not require any preparation or downtime, they may provide you with more details regarding treatments such as Sylfirm X RF microneedling. Your specialist will be able to give you more information on their exosome approach tailored to your needs

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Sylfirm X RF Microneedling

Standard microneedling devices rely on the mechanical force of tiny needles that penetrate into the dermis. As a result of this mechanism, the skin boosts its inflammatory responses, reacting to these micro-injuries with increased collagen and elastin production. With this treatment, patients can erase fine lines, treat hyperpigmentation, and gradually encourage healthy skin growth in place of atrophic scars. Sylfirm X RF is one of the latest advances in microneedling treatments, offering radiofrequency (RF) technology in addition to its microneedles. Radiofrequency is an electromagnetic energy that becomes gentle thermal energy upon contacting the skin. It has the unique ability to contract tissues- specifically the fibers within the dermis layer- providing a subtle lifting and tightening effect. Since skin care specialists apply topical anesthesia, patients can expect a comfortable 20 to 40-minute procedure, followed by exosome therapy, if desired.

Diamond Glow

Diamond Glow is a device clinicians use to perform deep exfoliation with revitalizing serums. This treatment involves suction of the top layer of dead skin, dirt, and oil, revealing more vibrant, healthy skin. With fresher skin free of contaminants, exosome therapy after a Diamond Glow treatment can allow for better penetration of the serum into the skin.

Chemical Peels

With “lighter” chemical peels, patients do not need to worry about the downtime required and excessive skin peeling. These peels are most often prescribed to those with mild acne, uneven skin tone, dryness, and enlarged pores and are not necessarily the most comprehensive treatment for those with significant sun damage. They often contain compounds such as glycolic acid and low amounts of salicylic acid that only reach the superficial layers of the skin. (5) The healing period after a peel is essential for quality results, making exosome therapy a great addition as a healing and anti-inflammatory agent as results settle in.

FAQ

Are there any side effects to exosome therapy?

So far, there have been no reported negative side effects in the topical use of exosomes. These nanoparticles are compatible with patients’ biology since they are naturally produced in the body.

Is exosome therapy painful?

Exosome therapy is the simple application of exosomes in a serum form. Some patients choose to apply exosomes during a microneedling treatment, which may be a bit uncomfortable. Clinicians typically apply topical numbing cream to make microneedling much more tolerable.

When will I notice the effects of exosome therapy?

After treatment, many patients may experience some unusual dryness, but the results will begin within a few days. The rejuvenating effects may continue to improve over several weeks.
