Preparation

Once you schedule your microneedling treatment, you will receive a set of detailed preparation instructions to prepare your skin. These instructions are fairly straightforward, but following them closely will provide optimal results.

Your specialist may require you to refrain from taking blood-thinning medications or supplements, and you must cease nicotine and alcohol consumption before and after the appointment, as these substances can affect your recovery. You may also have to modify your skincare routine to avoid using harsh or heavy skincare products, such as chemical peels, retinoids/retinols, or exfoliants.

On the day of your treatment, you should arrive with a clean face that is free from any makeup or skincare products.

Procedure

On the day of your treatment, your specialist will lead you to a private room where they will cleanse and sanitize your skin. This is to remove any residual makeup or skincare products from the skin, as well as potential oils or dirt. They will then apply a topical anesthetic to ensure a relaxing experience.

Your specialist will then use the Dermalogica tool to gently puncture the skin’s surface. This tool is small and handheld, and features several rows of fine needles. They will pass the tool over the skin several times until each micro-puncture looks uniform and even. After this, they will apply serums and ointments to the treatment area to enhance your recovery and results.

Recovery

After your treatment, you will be free to return to your daily activities, as there is no recovery or downtime. You may experience mild swelling or redness as your skin heals, but these effects are temporary and will subside on their own within several days.

You will need to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen when leaving the home and keeping it hydrated with moisturizer. You will also need to continue refraining from using any harsh or heavy skin products and delay wearing makeup.
