About Xeomin

Xeomin is an injectable treatment that can reduce visible signs of aging. This treatment is derived from botulinum toxin A, the same protein BOTOX® uses. Unlike Botox, Xeomin does not contain any complexing proteins. (1) These are nontoxic proteins that protect and facilitate the absorption of botulinum toxin A, but they can also cause a gradual tolerance to the formula to be built up. (2) Xeomin achieves its results by inhibiting the transmission of acetylcholine, which is the neurotransmitter responsible for dynamic facial movements. This means that when you receive this treatment, you are not just addressing your existing concerns, but also those that have yet to form or deepen.

Benefits

Xeomin offers several benefits, including:

  • Reduced Signs of Aging: Xeomin can soften existing wrinkles while preventing new ones from forming, allowing you to achieve a more youthful-looking appearance.
  • Non-Invasive Approach: Our team administers this treatment via injection, bypassing the need for general anesthesia, incisions, or the need for a lengthy recovery time.
  • Short Treatment Time: Our nurse injectors can administer your Xeomin injections in less than 35 minutes, which is much quicker than many other skin rejuvenation treatments.
  • No Downtime: You can return to your routine immediately after your appointment.
  • Elevated Self-Esteem: Addressing your physical concerns can spark a newfound sense of self-confidence and body positivity.

Candidates

You may want to consider Xeomin if you have found yourself frustrated with the development of age-related changes, such as:

  • Forehead Lines
  • Frown Lines
  • Crow’s Feet (Lateral Canthal Lines) (3)

To qualify for this treatment, you should be in good general health without any underlying medical conditions that may affect your recovery or results. This also includes any sensitivities or allergies to botulinum toxin or other ingredients in Xeomin. You should also hold realistic expectations regarding what this treatment can accomplish. Our team of nurse injectors will assess your candidacy during your personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation, one of our expert nurse injectors will meet with you to discuss each aspect of your treatment. They will explain what Xeomin is, its benefits and limitations, as well as how they perform treatment. They will ask about your medical history, personal concerns, and desired results. They will also assess your facial anatomy and skin quality. With this information, they will create a treatment plan truly unique to you.

Preparation

After establishing your Xeomin injection plan, your nurse injector will give you a detailed set of instructions to help you prepare. These may include:

  • Avoiding Specific Medications: Refrain from taking any medications or supplements that may thin your blood.
  • Altering Your Skincare: Avoid using any harsh or irritating skincare products around the targeted areas before being treated.
  • Arriving Prepared: Arrive at your appointment with clean skin that is clear of any makeup, skin care products, or facial jewelry.

As a non-surgical injection treatment, Xeomin does not require extensive preparations. However, following any instructions you receive will maximize its effects and your outcomes.

Procedure

When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted by a member of our team before they lead you to a private treatment area. Here, they will reconfirm your desired corrections and cleanse your skin. We will then give you the option of receiving a topical anesthetic, although most patients find that this is unnecessary.

Your nurse injector will then mark out each injection site, with the exact placements depending on your ideal results. They will measure out your exact Xeomin dosage and then inject the formula into the targeted facial muscles. Once they have addressed each area, you will be free to leave.

Recovery

While there is no specific recovery time associated with Xeomin, we ask that you follow certain guidelines to ensure the best possible results as your skin heals.

You may experience some initial redness, swelling, or bruising around the treated areas, but these effects will subside on their own shortly after. For the first 24 hours of your treatment, you will need to avoid pressing, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas. You will also need to avoid any strenuous exercise or activities for this same timeframe.

Results

The results of your Xeomin treatment will begin to develop several days after your initial injections, with the full results developing one to two weeks after. Your exact results will vary, but you can expect to enjoy smoother-looking and feeling skin, as well as a more youthful-looking appearance overall.

The results of your injections can last up to four months before we recommend returning for reinjection. However, this may vary depending on your body’s metabolism and which regions of the face you treated.

Corresponding Procedures

You can receive several other treatments alongside your Xeomin injections to produce more comprehensive and cohesive results, with three of them being Evolysse, SkinPen, and Klárdie. If you are interested in learning about our other treatments and procedures more thoroughly, we recommend reading the Skin Perfect blog!

Evolysse™

Evolysse™ is an injectable filler that can correct the appearance of visible wrinkles and deepening folds, specifically between the nose and corners of the mouth. This treatment is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that naturally occurs in the body and is known for attracting and maintaining hydration in the skin. However, what makes this formula unique is the use of Cold-X™ Technology. This uses near-freezing temperatures to protect the natural structure of the hyaluronic-acid chains, leading to more natural-looking and feeling results, as well as longer-lasting effects. (4)

SkinPen

SkinPen is an FDA-approved microneedling device that creates microwounds on the skin’s surface to remodel its appearance and stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. This treatment can address several concerns, such as visible signs of aging, acne scars, uneven skin tone or texturing, and more—allowing you to address numerous skin concerns with ease.

Klárdie

Klárdie is a skincare line that is formulated with nourishing ingredients and advanced biotechnology to achieve radiant, glowing skin. This collection of products contains Hyalusome™, a cross-linked hyaluronic acid formula that can plump and rehydrate the skin. With these products, you can preserve the effects of your treatment between your maintenance appointments.

FAQ

What is the difference between Xeomin and Botox?

Xeomin and Botox both derive from the same protein, but Xeomin does not contain accessory proteins, and Botox does. Accessory proteins are extra, non-toxic proteins that are added to the solution to protect the botulinum toxin itself. While they do not provide any cosmetic or therapeutic benefits, they can cause patients to slowly become more tolerant of the Botox formula.

Will my Xeomin injections hurt?

Xeomin injections are not painful, and many of our patients choose to receive their injections without any topical anesthesia. However, those who are more sensitive to pain can discuss their numbing options with our nurse injectors during their consultation.

How long will it take for my injector to administer my injections?

The exact length of your procedure will vary, but you can expect your nurse injector to complete your injections in less than 35 minutes.

How long will it take for the results to develop?

You will be able to see your improvements start to develop after 3 to 4 days, with the full results taking effect after approximately one to two weeks.

Are the results of Xeomin permanent?

No, the results of Xeomin are not permanent. Many of our patients experience their results for up to four months before we recommend undergoing a maintenance treatment. However, this can vary depending on the amount injected, your body’s metabolism, and the region your injector is correcting.
